Steve Cianfrini 2Steve is flying for our US Military in Iraq

He has a pretty interesting story that he would like to share with us.
“I arrived home on the 19 of July, but I was flying in Iraq, we were based out of BIAP (Baghdad International Airport) We patrolled everything south of Baghdad from the Tigris River in the East to the Euphrates in the West and all the way down south to Babylon which is about 60 KM South. I was over there for 15 months. I’m currently stationed at Ft.Drum, NY but my unit, 3-17 Cavalry is moving to Ft. Hunter in Savannah so I’ll be moving down there in the next coming months. We’ll be part of 3rd ID.”

“The Aircraft I fly is called the OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, its a single engine two seater scout recon light attack helicopter. The ball on top on aircraft is our “eyes in the sky” which houses our TV (day sight) and TIS (thermal imagining system for night time viewing) It can carry either two 2.75 inch rocket pods with 7 tubes a piece or just one rocket pod in conjunction with either a Hellfire missile or a .50 caliber machine gun. We mix and match our weapon systems to correlate with which ever particular mission we may be flying as well as what environment we’ll be operating as well. My miliary title is CW2 Steven Cianfrini (chief warrant officer 2). I have some amazing photographs taken from Iraq that I’ll try to get out to you via email for your own curiousity. It was great to hear from you all, I’ll keep in touch. Take care and be safe.”
